The Kevin Umlauf Memorial Scholarship Foundation, and the Dedicated Foundation was established by family members and friends in late 2006. The Scholarship is administered through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, a local not-for-profit organization. The Scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduate and graduate students who best exemplify the qualities of Kevin's personality that endeared him to his family and friends. Some of those qualities include: his overwhelming desire to lend a helping hand, his sense of humor, love for family and friends, love of bicycling, motorcycles, boats, jet skis, go-karts (well, anything that went fast!). We also have a Dedicated Fund specifically for supplying bicycles and bicycling accessories to young adults through area support programs, such as the Boys and Girls Town of Missouri, The Good Samaritan Boys Ranch and the Willard Schools Success Programs.
Kevin spent his childhood in Springfield, Missouri, where he was raised with his two brothers, Kory and Kenton, by his mother Kay Meeker and his father Boyd Umlauf. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1979. He married in 1982, and was the father to twin girls Jenna and Jerra. He was a member of the Springfield Breakfast Club, Vice-President of the Springbike Bicycle Club, and a member of the MS-150 Bike Tour Planning Committee. He worked as a auto body paint and finisher for himself, as well as, for DeBryan Coach builders, prior to 2000, when he purchased the Sunshine Bike Shop. the last six years he totally dedicated his life to his daughters, his love of outdoor sports (specifically bicycling), and his joy of Community Service.
Kevin was 46 years young when he left this world. His spirit, enthusiasm, curiosity, kindness, laughter, generosity and his ability to "Celebrate Life" is his legacy that this Foundation will carry forward.
